Overview

Nazareth University will begin migrating all campus PCs to the Windows 11 operating system in the coming months. To help users prepare for this transition, we’ve compiled a list of resources highlighting key differences between Windows 11 and Windows 10, along with tips for navigating the new interface and features.

Customizing the Task Bar in Windows 11

What's New? What's the Same?

For brand new users:

  • All your files, folders, and familiar apps are still here.
  • The Start Menu is now centered but works much like before—click it to see recent apps and search for anything.
  • The Task Bar shows your running apps and can be customized.
  • Quick Settings (bottom right) combines Wi-Fi, sound, and display controls in one place.
  • Widgets bring you calendar, weather, and news at a glance (look for the blue icon on the left).

Right-Click Context Menu Changes:

  • Icons Instead of Words: When you right-click a file or folder, you’ll see icons for common actions like cut, copy, paste, and rename.
  • Missing Commands? Many of the old commands—like "Create shortcut," "Send to," or certain third-party options—are now tucked away. To see everything, select “Show more options” at the bottom of the menu (or press Shift + Right-Click).
  • This will open the classic context menu with all the commands you remember from Windows 10.

Navigation Tips:

  • Right-click the Start button for shortcuts to Settings, Task Manager, and more.
  • Use [Windows key] + [A] for Quick Settings, [Windows key] + [W] for Widgets.
  • Snap Layouts: Hover over the maximize button on any window to arrange your apps side by side.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I move the Task Bar?
Right-click the Task Bar, select “Taskbar settings,” and set “Taskbar alignment” to “Left.”

Where’s Control Panel?
Search for “Control Panel” using the Start Menu—it’s still there, but most settings are now in the new “Settings” app.

Why are copy, paste, and other options missing when I right-click?
Windows 11 now uses icons for common actions like copy, cut, paste, rename, and delete. If you need other options (like “Create shortcut” or “Send to”), click “Show more options” at the bottom of the right-click menu to bring up the full classic menu.

Where’s ‘My Computer’?
Open “File Explorer” from the Task Bar (yellow folder icon). “This PC” replaces “My Computer.”

How do I sign out, restart, or shut down?
Click the Start Menu, then the power icon at the bottom right.
