Printer Purchases
Color Printers
Departments are encouraged to utilize existing, centralized color print resources where possible - i.e. Media Resources, public Toshiba color MFDs. However, if a department deems that a color printer is absolutely necessary for a critical job function, ITS will purchase an approved color laser printer (connected to the campus network) with the purchase cost charged back to the department. Alternatively, departments may submit a budget request for a color printer to be reviewed during the budget planning process.
Approved color printer models are determined by the Managed Print Services vendor (Toshiba Business Solutions). This is to ensure cost efficiency and performance standards.
Black & White Printers
ITS will cover the expense of one shared centralized B&W departmental printer or MFD (multi-function device) to be used by department staff and faculty. For cost efficiency, there should not be a need for desktop printers in individual offices. However, if a department deems that an individual desktop printer is absolutely necessary, ITS will purchase an approved laser B&W printer (connected to the campus network) with the purchase cost charged back to the department. Alternatively, departments may submit a budget request for a printer to be reviewed during the budget planning process.
Approved B&W printer models are determined by the Managed Print Services vendor (Toshiba Business Solutions). This is to ensure cost efficiency and performance standards.
Printer Replacement Policy
Color printers and individual B&W printers
If a printer fails and cannot be repaired during the initial manufacturer warranty period, ITS in conjunction with the Managed Print Services vendor will replace that printer under the terms of the warranty at no cost to the department. If the warranty period has expired, the Managed Print Services provider will make every reasonable effort to repair the printer. If the printer has reached end of useful life or otherwise beyond repair, ITS can purchase a replacement printer with the purchase cost charged back to the department. Alternatively, the department may submit a budget request for a replacement.
Shared B&W printers
ITS will cover the expense of shared, centralized B&W departmental printers or MFD (multi-function devices). Departments will not incur charges for the replacement of these printers.
DeskJet/Inkjet Printers
Due to the high operating costs of these devices, Nazareth University is no longer purchasing deskjet/inkjet printers for office use. Existing deskjet/inkjet printers may be used until no longer functional. Please note these devices are not covered by our Managed Print Services contract for supplies and maintenance. If the device fails, faculty and staff are asked to utilize shared print resources where possible.
